Home Learning
The school’s vision statement is clear that we need to provide: a world class educational experience which leaves students prepared and qualified for the global marketplace. As such, students need to be working hard at home and have an embedded ethic of scholarship.
To view our Home Learning Policy, please click on the link below:
Policy:
The policy is simple and is designed to improve outcomes in the classroom.
Home learning at FHES will be used:
- To practise skills learnt in class;
- To prepare for upcoming learning; or
- To recap learning already taught.
It will be:
- High quality;
- Integral to the curriculum; and
- Feedback will be provided for it.
Amount:
Students will usually have two home learning tasks per night (please see the timetables for each year group below). At Key Stage 3 (Y7 - Y9), it is expected that each home learning task will take 30 minutes to complete. At Key Stage 4 (Y10 - Y11), it is expected that each home learning task will take 1 hour to complete.
The home learning timetable sets out the night on which work will be set. If students adhere to the home learning timetable, then they will not have to do more than two home learning tasks per night.
Sparx Reader:
Sparx Reader is the school’s new reading programme.
In Years 7 and 8, students will have specific days set aside for their Sparx Reader task. In Year 9, students will have two home learning tasks per night and one Sparx Reader task over the week. Currently, Key Stage 4 students will not have Sparx Reader home learning set.
Sanctions/ Rewards
Students should be rewarded when home learning is completed to a high standard. Failure to complete home learning, without a reasonable reason, will result in a detention being set.
What can I do to support my child?
All home learning should be set on Google Classroom. Students must also place home learning into their planner. Please check that home learning is being completed and support your child where they need support. A home learning club is run every day in the library from 15:00-16:15pm and Chromebooks are available to use there.
